AMU session: “Incidence geometry and tiled surfaces” by Sergey Fomin (University of Michigan)

The AMU meeting will take place on the 12th of December 2024 at 14:30 in the auditorium number 137 of the faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of YSU

Prof. Sergey Fomin from the University of Michigan will give a lecture on the topic “Incidence geometry and tiled surfaces.”

Abstract:
We show that various classical theorems of linear incidence geometry, such as the theorems of Pappus, Desargues, Möbius, and so on, can be interpreted as special cases of a general result that involves a tiling of a closed oriented surface by quadrilateral tiles. This yields a general mechanism for producing new incidence theorems and generalizing the known ones.
