AMU session “On the Law of Universal Gravitation and its teaching”

The AMU meeting will take place on the 14th of May 2025 at 14:30 in the auditorium number 241 of the faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of YSU.
Yulij Ilyashenko (Moscow Center for Continuous Mathematical Education and National Research University Higher School of Economics)
and George Shabat (Moscow Center for Continuous Mathematical Education and Russian State University for the Humanities) will give a lecture on the topic "On the Law of Universal Gravitation and its teaching."

Abstract:

We discuss several mathematical models of the
Kepler-Newton gravity. The natural problem is
to choose those of them that are most compatible
with the actual physical observations. We suggest
several motivations for choosing the Law of Universal
Gravitation and argue that some of them can be explained
to the high-school students.
Finally we present some non-classical models of gravity
developed by the second-named speaker.
