Schanuel’s conjecture

20 June 2017 a general meeting of AMU was held. Ph.D. Vahagn Aslanyan from the Oxford University have presented a talk: Schanuel’s conjecture.

Abstract. Schanuel’s conjecture captures the transcendence properties of the complex exponential function. It is considered out of reach of modern methods in mathematics. I will discuss the conjecture and several of its consequences such as the algebraic independence of e and π which is a long standing open question in its own right. Furthermore, I will present Ax’s theorem which is a functional analogue of Schanuel’s conjecture.
